Yes, the alarm does have it's own battery, but most are toast by now.
As to battery drain, you can remove the neg (-) battery cable and connect a multimeter between it and the neg battery post. You should see around 35 ma normal drain.
If you see a heap more, start plucking fuses till you locate the source circuit.

thanks for the heads up I will check it up over the weekend. I am also doing search on the forum and I think I nailed the issue.

Chrysler dealer wants $291 and they don't have it in stock either. However, the part guy gave me Mercedes part number and said I can check up with them as well. I usually find Merc parts to be $100 cheaper. Part number is A2198203226.
Got off the call with Merc and they are selling it for $202 Canadian. FYI for anyone out there.
