The instructions say i need a positive 12 volt constant (un-switched) source, a positive 12 volt ignition (switched) source, any good (unpainted) ground connection. Where would be the best spots for each of these, and where is the best spot to run wires through the firewall on the drivers side of the car? Thanks alot for any help.

To run the wires, remove the trim above the pedals (takes, if I remember, two screw's removal and that panel comes out). Under the hood, take the cover off the driver's side fuse box. You can use a STIFF rod or wire, feed it into the corner of that box, and it'll come out under the dash thru a passage that a lot of wires run thru. Plenty of extra room! Tape your wires to the rod and pull them thru with the rod.

I can't remember where I picked up my ground for my oil gauge, it was somewhere under the dash.

You will find switched and unswitched power in the fuse box that you took the lid off. Use one of these to get power out of the box:

These are available at AutoZone and other places (like WalMart).

The bottom fuse pins are for the fuse that was in the spot you are using.
The top pins are for the fuse that will power the red wire that goes to your gauge.
Just make sure you orient it so that power is on the left blade and load is on the right. If you put it in backwards, all of the current for the existing circuit and added circuit go thru the bottom fuse - not a BIG deal, but not really the right way to do it. Confirm withe a voltmeter which pin is hot after you pull the fuse!

(The two pins on the left connect to the blade on the left, the bottom right pin connects to the right blade. The top right pin connects to the red wire - got it?)

yer welcome....
