The first aid kit and a triangle were included in the European models, it is required by law I understand and extra kit has been added since, reflective vests and another triangle I believe.

In North America we do not get them, probably because someone might be sued if the bandages or whatever fail to save someones life. You would also be sued if you failed to stop them bleeding to death from a severed artery in some areas, you would have to at least try.

I have a UK kit for my car and the kit is stored against the rear wall of the trunk, it's not much use when it is stored under the mat with the trunk full of whatever fits in there.
