You have got a bit confused, the 24mm hole goes through the carpet only. I used 22mm and it was tighter on the adapter, you do not want a hole that is too big showing under the mounting bracket. The holes for the adapter are already in place, they are in small wells that takes up some of the depth of the adapter head.

I marked the position of the hole like they describe and pushed a sharp scriber through the carpet to find the extent of the hole and thus find the true center of the hole in the bulkhead. I thought their method was a bit vague.

The adapter or a tap is then screwed into the hole in the bulkhead rear wall cutting the thread as it goes.


I added a photo that shows the holes in the rear face of the bulkhead, the picture was taken at Karmann during assembly of the car.


You can see three holes in the top of the bulkhead, you'll be using the one on the left and the matching one on the right that you cannot see. You can see that the holes are in wells below the main face of the bulkhead.
