My 1st car was a Rochdale Ford Special a fiberglass sports car with a wooden floor built on the chassis and components from a 1950 Ford Popular model E93A side valve with 3 gears and rod pull brakes registration number GUM 1. It had an Aquaplane Cylinder Head and Inlet manifold with twin downdraft Zeniths and four branch exhaust manifold, and did around 60mph. This was one of the first kit cars. Bought for £10 from a scrap dealer in 1970, ran it for a year before swapping it for a rusty mini cooper 998cc
