I can only assume that the OEM siren in the crossfire did not have that capability.
Or, that the pins on the siren were differently configured and thus did not operate the beep. I think software does not come into it other than what I mentioned above.
Or, they saved money and replaced there original intended part with some cheap and obsolescent sirens. (Say it isn't so.)

Years back people were convinced that changing the program would make it beep, all attempts failed. It may be possible that programing changes may switch it off, no one has said the new siren did not beep.

Similarly the DRL feature was thought to be a program mod, it was found that a different part was required. People paid good money only to be told that it could not be done even though they were first assured that it could.

Netherlands mod? Is that when you replace all of the bulbs with tulips? (forgive me, I've used that line before)

Hmmm... I'll have to give it a shot when my star das is up and running...

The R170 guys were able to get somewhere:

hey guys with the netherlands alarm setting - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

And this is where I got instructions:

Netherlands setting: This has been asked a billion times before but..... - MBWorld.org Forums
