Section 8J of the service manual tells you what you want to know.
It looks like a real mess to me, but it is probably not that bad - you will first removed the steering wheel, then the lower dash panel (easy) then the instrument cluster (does not look too bad).

Here is a hint: If the owner's manual says "see the dealer" you should read that as either:

"Take the car to an independent shop that works on MBs"
or
"Open the service manual and fix it yourself".
