Common cause is the siren battery leaking and corroding the circuitry inside the alarm.
Two adventurous people took the alarm apart, cleaned it up, added new batteries and reinstalled the alarm.

Other times it is the car battery failing, bad connections in the sensors in the locks and latches among others I have forgot.
