Just one thing though - and I don't want to appear a smarta$$, but I've always been taught not to touch the glass on Halogen bulbs and photo 7 shows doing just that.

Good catch, but ..............
In post number seven he says that that is the bad bulb, he'd been pulled up on that twice in previous five posts.
