The really annoying part was that FedEx charged more for their "advancement fee" than the tax. I would have been happy to pay the six bucks up front but is now $12.65 plus a stamp.

No . . . the declared value of the package also becomes the insured value of the package. If a claim is filed and has to be paid, they must also ADD the original shipping cost to what they pay off.
I don't know how your package could have been different than every other one. My "extra" billing from FedEx was $8.18. I don't know how much effort you want to expend to maybe be reimbursed for about $4.00 but if you want to pursue it I will assist you. Can you get me a copy of your shipping label?
