What I really want is another 100 hp. so that's the expensive engine.

Yep, and you'd have the potential for 1-200 more pretty easily.

Having removed the rev limiter in gears 4,5,6, I play with fire downshifting at the higher speeds. So my engine will suffer a premature failure.
Although 180 dismisses it out of hand, Eurocharged has claimed me close to 290 HP more or less. What does the V/8 give me? And what is the weight gain over the Na six?
Since we will be talking a Wavetrack, what other changes to the rear suspension will be, or could be, done?
Looks like 5700 miles for me including 1300 miles of driving while there. With my safety margin a grand would cover the gas. Maybe a grand for hotel and food to get there…. Hmmm. I'll be talking to my wife about making one of the next two meets.
Yeah, rev limiter removed! That's nuts!
The 5.0L gives you 308 stock, but that doesn't matter… What matters is the 340 ft-lbs stock. Now the SL500 puts 255-265whp down stock… With a manual? No clue but it's a good amount higher than that. I'd estimate 275whp and 309 wheel ft-lbs. With mods it can crawl pretty high. I also have the Kleemann tune for their supercharger on the 5.0 engine if anyone ever decides to run that direction as well. With a secondary cat delete, good flowing intake, good flowing dual exhaust, and tune you're looking at 360 ish at the crank hp, and maybe 390-410 ft-lbs. The motor is MAYBE 60-80 lbs heavier than the NA.
When it comes to what 'could' be done. I'll go on forever. Right now I'm stock suspension with cut rear springs. It handles amazing. Throttle steer when I want it, and dives in good.
I recommend ground control, even though we don't know what it entails yet

.
Wavetrac, SRT wing (downforce), and at minimum SRT brakes. I'm running stock brakes at the moment but one of my goals will be big ole beasts like the 55 brakes or something.
