Miata might be on to something. You might try taking the battery cable off the battery and leaving it off for a minute to 'reset' things. (Just a thought).
And a one year old battery CAN be a problem.

ANyway:
But I tested my car just now, having the trunklid ajar or FULLY open does NOT stop the spoiler from coming up by the switch. It only stops the top from moving.
We may have two issues here, but the ONE common item seems to be the battery. Would you have another car that you can "borrow" the battery from for a test?

Try a different battery and see what you get. We can go from there.
