I have done this before and just get a flat blade or similar that fits the groove and tap until it starts to move .....make sure it does not get into the oil pan so don't just hit it hard.......depending on the damage it might take a little effort to get out but it will come out. The key is half moon shape so be aware of what the other side looks like when you remove it.
