Default Help Please... Crossfire has delay when press accelerator!

Hi all, I'm new to this site and it's my first post so I apologise if I miss off any details needed.
I have searched the threads and cannot find what the problem could be, people list similar faults but none which sound the same.
I was driving tonight and my Engine Management Light came on and the power dropped and then went so limp.
I pulled over and then turned the car off, waited a minute and turns it back over bit starts over fine and the engine doesn't sound rough, but when I press the accelerator pedal there is like a 1-2 second delay from the revs actually going up, and same when I change gear and let off the pedal the back on.
When I press the pedal I can hear the air coming in still but it doesn't rev up for a noticeable time, which was never there before.
I have a 2004 Crossfire Coupe, manual, 75k miles.
Can anyone please advise what the problem may be or where I may need to start.
Apologies if I sound thick, I'm not a mechanic or ok the car trade at all

Thanks in advance
Jason
