I did it without any problem, I pulled back the carpet and threaded a stiff piece of wire up behind the plastic trim and pulled a string back through and then the wire attached to the string, easy peasy.
I started poking around with a coat hanger last time I was in there, but it was cold and I wasn't having any luck so I decided to wait til spring. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time!
