Re: SRT-6 Aftermarket Heat Exchanger (Intercooler)
The engine will live with the stock heat exchanger. If it gets too hot the supercharger will disengage. Personal experience. A heat exchanger that covers the radiator, Needswings style, results in 2º to 5º higher water temperature under severe conditions. I'm talking 20 minute track sessions at WOT in 100º ambient temperatures. Most won't notice any change in coolant temps. Currently my car has an E55 AMG heat exchanger which has double the capacity of the stocker and 1/2, or less, than the Needswings super cooler. My concern is coolant temps and not heat exchanger temps. Run hard enough and the IAT's reach 175º no matter what heat exchanger you have. It's an intercooler capacity and location problem. I should mention that my intercooler is ceramic coated and wrapped with high temp reflective material. Perhaps a super pump will give positive results with a huge heat exchanger. Don't know. Every modification I've done to keep IAT's lower have resulted in a maximum of less than 5º difference. It takes longer for things to heat up but they reach the same temperatures after a while. My advise is to find something with at least 2 liters of capacity. (stocks around 1 liter) More is better but the intercoolers limitations offset heat exchanger size benefits. IMO naturally, your free to find out for yourself.
