It's certainly possible the car was special ordered. Pretty much all manufacturers will comply with special order paint, especially if it's a color available in their current lineup. There was an article in Motor Trend about this several years back. It stated you can even special order a totally custom paint color on a base model Mustang. So it's not just a luxury manufacturer perk. Most Americans don't chose to custom order their cars, though as we are an instant gratification culture.
