Start by lubricating the hood latch mechanism with a shot of white lithium grease (available at most auto parts stores). Work the mechanism a few times and that should fix the problem. Also if lubing the mechanism doesn't end up taking the slack out of the pull cable, look for an adjustment point on the cable pull to take that slack out. I suggest you take care of this problem quickly before something snaps leaving you unable to open your hood.
