If you have an Android smart phone or tablet, the cost of a very intelligent code reader for any car since 1996 is $20 - $15 for a
<i>mini bluetooth dongle</i> mini bluetooth dongle
and $5 for the Torque Pro App from the store.

I have a mini because there is not that much knee room in my Crossie. They also have diagnostic LEDS to show the OBD is working.
