Brabus/Startech Exhaust
I took a run up to meet a fellow forum member this morning (good to meet you Ron!) to collect a Startech exhaust. It had come off a damaged Coupe but wouldn't fit Ron's Roadster due to the silencer box being too long.
I mainly bought it because it was a bargain and too good to pass up, and I wanted to use it as a pattern for a 'homebrew' set up so I didn't need to remove the stock system from the car.
I am not sure exactly what a Startech 'system' comprises but I now have the cat-back rear box/tailpipe section two Brabus twin-cat pipes (parts 170-600-60 and 170-600-50, I assume the '170' relates to the SLK platform). I am assuming that the Startech 'system' you buy from a dealer is just the rear cat-back section, as this would appear to fit straight on to the stock cat. The Brabus cat pipes are a larger diameter and look like they will fit straight on to the headers, but there is obviously a missing 'Y' section to join them to the tail section. I think they may actually be for an SLK. Incidentally the standard pipes on mine are different each side - the RH side has a round section but the LH side is a very flat oval section which looks very restrictive!
I will probably fit the cat pipes and fab up a dual silencer system at the rear.
Does anyone have a pic or a drawing of the complete Startech system?
Here's some pics:
