This included taking an electric knife to the seat bottom sides and adding a piece of foam to the center (about an hour's work) and the pain in my right hip from being forced sideways went away.

As mentioned in another post I went to an Art show in South Florida today so drove 340 miles RT and feel fine. Had good tunes on my phone and the XF sound system is fine with me.
If by larger you mean fatter that may have been true in the past but Europeans have sadly caught up. Height wise the Europeans are generally as tall, the Dutch for some reason are on average much taller. At 5'10" you would tend to be a bit on the short side, 5'9"is about the average height, you seem (inner?) from your past posts to be a bit short in the leg department and long in the body. You are not average at all, American or European.
I am a tad under 5'11' these days and I fit OK, no problem as my inner seam is 32" and 190lb. My bonny a$$ does give me some trouble on long trips though.
