Default LONG, but it might be worth it.

I haven’t posted on this board for quite a while. I have an SLK32 AMG which I fell in love with, though at times it has been a love/hate relationship. This forum was a great resource, but when faced with unique problems that weren’t easily resolved through your expertise, I felt stymied.

Many moons have passed and I experienced some tranny problems that weren’t easily resolved through trial and error, common sense, streams of money or a consensus from previous forum posts. I’ve driven my baby very little and have lately been in “limp mode”. Not to mention that GD airbag light. The airbag light was caused by my cycling the ignition switch when the airbags were electrically disconnected. I have two different iPhone apps to read DTC’s but the most I got regarding the tranny was a P0715. Even other “more advanced” code readers came up with doodlee squat. So I disconnected the battery and she has sat idle for the better part of 6 months.

So a couple of days ago I ordered an iCarsoft MBII code reader. Today it arrived. This thing is freaking awesome. A quick update of the firmware and I was ready to go. When connected to the OBDII port, I was led through a series of menus that not only asked for the R170 chassis, it prompted for the SLK32. Then, it quickly cleared my air bag light, and it revealed 13, count ‘em, 13 TCU error codes. After recording the codes, I cleared the codes and my baby was out of limp mode. On a short, gentle test ride, the device also provided real-time data streams of TONS of data. It’s like I can finally talk to the computers in my car!

I know what you’re thinking and no, I did not go tearing through my neighborhood straight to the track. I have plenty of investigating to do before I can heal her and drive her for real. But, it was just such a relief to finally have the data to begin a diagnosis of what ails her.

Granted, this is all “first blush” infatuation. But I have never had this much information or control over my car’s systems. For less than $200, you owe it to yourself to get one of these bad boys. And no, I do not work for iCarsoft….though I wish I did. I will provide updates as I delve deeper into this device. I’ll be posting screen shots of my initial findings separately.

You can find the tool HERE, though I got mine on eBay for much less http://www.ebay.com/itm/iCarsoft-MB-II-Mercedes-Benz-Sprinter-Smart-Scanner-OBD2/301665127380?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D33278%26meid%3Db4fcf262148c42afb95c4a6ffc63a14f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D301684372197 and I don’t work for them either!
