That is a valid concern I have. However, as we know the Crossfire is a Mercedes SLK320 (R170) under the sheet metal I suspect that it's more likely it will work. As I'm strongly considering buying this it could be an expensive mistake, or a relatively inexpensive win. Do you have any reference information that backs up that a Mercedes scanner will not work? Do you know if the Mercedes Star tool does not work with the Crossfire.
