Where did you hear the noise from? That may be the locks trying to operate, and a leak in the lines. There is one line for drivers door, 1 line for liftgate, and 1 for passenger door and fuel door combined.
Not knowing anything about cars...it sounded like it was coming from behind the dash. (behind the radio area) I found myself turning right (of the ignition) to listen to the whine sound. Would a mechanic shop check these lines for leaks?
MrMiata....I did a copy and paste of what you said about tire well area. Should I have spouse check that out when this evening??
