Default Airport Security

So I'm at Ft. Lauderdale airport yesterday, going through the security checkpoint. My phone starts ringing while my bag is going through the x-ray machine. They inform me they have to search my bag (I assume because of my phone). Well somehow my kitchen scissors ended up in my toiletry bag, and that's what they were checking out. I had no idea they were in there, so I told them it's no big deal and they can just throw them out. I'm thinking, wow, good job TSA. I feel a little safer right now. Then they inform me that it's ok, they are allowed on the plane... I couldn't believe it. Sure, I'm obviously no threat to anyone, as I'm not a hijacker, but these things are DEADLY. They are sharper than regular scissors, A LOT sharper, and are much more dangerous than the box cutters the 9/11 hijackers had. They easily have a 3 inch blade. I don't even know what to say... and I don't know what is worse, the fact that Newark screeners missed them, or that Ft. Lauderdale screeners think they're not a danger.
