Airport Security

So I'm at Ft. Lauderdale airport yesterday, going through the security checkpoint. My phone starts ringing while my bag is going through the x-ray machine. They inform me they have to search my bag (I assume because of my phone). Well somehow my kitchen scissors ended up in my toiletry bag, and that's what they were checking out. I had no idea they were in there, so I told them it's no big deal and they can just throw them out. I'm thinking, wow, good job TSA. I feel a little safer right now. Then they inform me that it's ok, they are allowed on the plane... I couldn't believe it. Sure, I'm obviously no threat to anyone, as I'm not a hijacker, but these things are DEADLY. They are sharper than regular scissors, A LOT sharper, and are much more dangerous than the box cutters the 9/11 hijackers had. They easily have a 3 inch blade. I don't even know what to say... and I don't know what is worse, the fact that Newark screeners missed them, or that Ft. Lauderdale screeners think they're not a danger.

Scissors are OK as long as the blade is less than 4 inches. Apparently they don't care how sharp they are. A lot of scissors could easily be more of a weapon than the tiny little pocket knives that they won't even let you carry.
no worries... for all you know the guy next to you can assemble a 5 foot katana out of parts hidden in his size 14 shoes...
just remember... rile the passengers into a killing frenzy if you need to take someone down and then duck under the seat as they take care of it...
holy hell those are some huge scissors ! break the part that joins the two pieces and you have just made yourself two really nice large weapons !

As I heard someone say... "I'm just glad that Richard Reid didn't have exploding underwear on." Don't even get me started on the fear mongering regime in Washington.
If you're not outraged - you aren't paying attention.
My girlfriend and I are going to Myrtle Beach on Labor Day weekend and we were kidding each other about what we should or shouldn't pack...since last time they confiscated her LITTLE scissors which weren't anything like the MONSTER you have there. Do the screeners treat things differently at various airports or are they all under the same rules? Seems kind of odd to me they would allow yours and not allow hers which were much smaller then yours.
I recall reading of an Audi owner with a folding key fob like ours (and most German cars) that was taken from him before boarding! It seems that since it folded like a switchblade, it was a threat. And you thought scissors were dangerous.
Ok all here is the answer to the airline problem.
Enjoy!

I was grabbed by Mexico screeners in Mexico City International Airport...they confiscated my eyeglass repair for the deadly screwdriver. I mean, my Pentel 0.5mm pencil has a longer and sharper point than my eyeglasses tweaker...and guess what? I lost the screw off one side 1 month later on a trip to Austin and I hadn't replaced the repair kit. I scrounged a staple off the carpet and made a temp repair.
Maybe I'll be able to carry my fingernail clippers again. Either that or I'm getting a set of kitchen shears like mightjlr so I can keep my nails trimmed.
