Talk about mindless, how about forgetting to put the oil drain plug back in after draining and before refilling? Had to walk a bit to buy another 5 quarts (this happened back @ 1975).

I did that once with a motorcycle so only a few quarts wasted
As for our cars and synthetic oil a greater loss for sure
