You just scraped out the old crud and got the adhesive into the edges of the failure as best you could while running a proper bead (after primer) to the areas where the glass was fully separated? Exactly! After getting the sides and bottom done.. the top edge that was holding let go.. so had to come back and fix it. The one I fixed as a favor hasn't had the "come fix top edge" issue.. I'm sure mine saw a lot of stress on that edge before I purchased it.
