The new LED lamps have the actual LEDs in that very same position. And they have two LEDs on both sides of a narrow strip , covering as good as 360 degrees. As the Weisslicht mentioned above.
The older, 1st generation LEDs had LEDs all around, causing the glare that blinds opposite drivers.
Do we have a true candlepower comparison yet? It would be awesome to see a down the road picture of one LED and one halogen side by side.
