I see $97 for a pair on the site mentioned, not too bad at all ( if they will fit and are bright enough )

As is with any light lumens or candlepower is a rating. What is the standard H7 VS the LED H7?

In this test the LED is not even close in light output...

Well, this is a given. And that test was over 2 years ago. LED tech has come a long, long way in those 2 years. I know. I collaborate in research with Cree.

If it's OK with you, I'll investigate further. OK?

I'm sorry to disappoint you gentlemen, but these will not work anywhere near as good as an HID setup would in our housings.
LEDs simply do not have the needed lighting angles for a halogen/HID projector bowl to properly focus the light into a nice sharp cutoff, with good distance. All these things will do is glare like hell to oncoming traffic, and they will mostly flood the foreground of the car with light and not much in the distance(where you want light).

I think/agree the H7 Halogen has its light emitting part at a fixed position, and headlight reflectors are designed in such a way that from that fixed position the light is projected in a most ideal manner to the street in front.
The new LED lamps have the actual LEDs in that very same position. And they have two LEDs on both sides of a narrow strip , covering as good as 360 degrees. As the Weisslicht mentioned above.
The older, 1st generation LEDs had LEDs all around, causing the glare that blinds opposite drivers.

Do we have a true candlepower comparison yet? It would be awesome to see a down the road picture of one LED and one halogen side by side.

The problem I see with any of the H7 LED bulbs is the need for ventilation, be it by fan or the coiled metal heat dissipaters. This leaves the housing open, looks like an invitation to moisture buildup.

Which builds up the most heat during operation a regular H7 or the LED version? Our H7 bulbs are sealed in the housing, the heat produced is in the front of it.
If LED is more efficient then it has to produce less heat for the same light output. With the heat produced in the front of the housing or less heat in the rear of it which is best, I cannot say myself.
You certainly want to keep them sealed away from moisture as they supposedly are now.

H7 Halogen is up to 1,600 lumens. The LEDs are +3,000 lumens. That's almost twice as much.

The above Weisslicht seem to be small enough to fit in the headlight unit, closed with cap. At least, that's what they advertise

I have Silverstar Ultras in mine and are both very bright (think about 2000 lumens) and do not bother other drivers (in fact seem more like very tight focus driving lights - can see two tunnels).

Ditto, SS Ultra's for many years without replacement and super bright.

These are 1,700 Lumens Halogen, not +3,000 Lumens LED.
I guess someone is going to have to try them, to find out ...

Here's a nice installation tutorial, with instruction on how to get the right pattern at roughly 2:55

Yes, filament bulbs of course. Anyone who knows anything about headlight bulbs know Sylvania Silver Stars are incandescent bulbs. If you hold them in your hands (by the base only, oils on the glass generate hotspots that reduce the life of the bulbs), you'll easily see the filament inside. If you go to any auto parts outlet and see bulbs packaged in blister packages, it is super easy to see which are LED or built as a standard lamp.
