I have to agree, based on experience on my end as well, replace the carrier bearing as a unit it's the proper way, the rubber housing overtime deteriorates.
I have been on this forum for ten years and watched even longer and I can say that this carrier had not been a big problem, in fact hardly any problem at all. I personally would consider replacing it when replacing the flex joints when and if required, I have seen the flex joints cause problems many times.
