I moved my one forward just to look at the bottom clamp, it is not necessary that it be tightened, it may or may not form a lip for some batteries to go under. I think it does not from what I see.

I think that some people will tend to over tighten the top clamp strap, I tighten it so that it will still deflect by moderate pressure pushing it down by the nut.
