The secret is to lightly pry the pad reward the ground while unscrewing the screw. His action starts the screwed end of the screw into the threaded hole in the pad. It is quite an ingenious assembly. You need a nice wide tool as the screwdriver or it gets too awkward to do.

do you mean pry the pad REARWARD OR TOWARD? you mean the whole rectangular pad, not the actual round plastic retainer (screw) right?
