If you have NOTHING, no lights on the dash, etc., I'd suspect the 200amp fuse in the little square box next to the battery. It feeds the entire car except the engine fan, ABS brake system, starter and alternator.

The black lead from the 200amp fuse goes to the terminal strip in the back of the underhood fuse box on the other side of the car. From there, battery feed goes all over the place.

If the car is THAT dead, you should be able to start with the voltmeter across the battery and see 12 or so volts. Then move the red meter lead to either side of that 200 amp fuse, I'll bet you have power on the battery side, but not the other side. Of course, the question will then be - what blew that fuse?

If you smelled burnt stuff, try tracking the battery cable as it goes down the side of the engine. I beleive it goes directly to the starter/solenoid, with a jumper from there to the A+ lug on the back of the Alternator.
