My hindsight thanks to tighed1!! It was the RCM. I did waste a couple of hours and 100 dollars on a pump and filter first, and 150 dollars later for the RCM module (not too bad), I am good to go. Interestingly, on close inspection of the old RCM, the only clue on a pristine looking part is some slight scorching and wear on what I believe to be the Air pump relay (not the Fuel pump relay as I would have expected). Curious...but I am not going to ponder it other than for a bit of concern that this occurred with only 15000 miles on the car. Is it going to happen again??
