You could check that there is power at the pump before you buy another one, a simple check to do and it could save you $$$$.

 

My hindsight thanks to tighed1!! It was the RCM. I did waste a couple of hours and 100 dollars on a pump and filter first, and 150 dollars later for the RCM module (not too bad), I am good to go. Interestingly, on close inspection of the old RCM, the only clue on a pristine looking part is some slight scorching and wear on what I believe to be the Air pump relay (not the Fuel pump relay as I would have expected). Curious...but I am not going to ponder it other than for a bit of concern that this occurred with only 15000 miles on the car. Is it going to happen again??

 

On the day you posted your problem I pointed you to the fuel pump relay and how to check it. Dollars later you come around to that answer. Remember do not jump to conclusions and then in error throw parts at the car. With that method you can get a job at a dealership.

 

The RCM module initial cost exploration was high, so, I took the path of process of elimination from lower to higher cost. In the process, I found a supplier with a better price (140).

 

A while back you could get a used RCM for $40. There are a few variations of them and a search here wold show the part number not used on a Crossfire but works just as well.
Get the old one repaired and carry it as a spare in the trunk along with a spare crank shaft sensor and the tools to install it.

 

Good advice, might just say you a 5 mile hike!....lol.

 

With the factory unit going bad at 14k miles, I am not sure a used one is a good idea.

 

$30 will get your used RCM rebuilt to better than new condition AND you'll have the Me So Horny mod!

 

These parts were made poorly back when the cars were made, Mercedes recalled many of them, Chrysler did not. The Mercedes Forums and the Crossfire forum came up with a repair that overcame the problem.

Burnt out solenoids are a common complaint in industry all over, the problems occurs because the arcing burns contacts which are made of cheap material and the relays cheap winding's wire are among other poor quality materials used.

Newer made RCM s should be better but as the old one can be repaired much cheaper why not go that route. Use it in case of emergency if you like and buy a brand new one at your leisure.
