These parts were made poorly back when the cars were made, Mercedes recalled many of them, Chrysler did not. The Mercedes Forums and the Crossfire forum came up with a repair that overcame the problem.

Burnt out solenoids are a common complaint in industry all over, the problems occurs because the arcing burns contacts which are made of cheap material and the relays cheap winding's wire are among other poor quality materials used.

Newer made RCM s should be better but as the old one can be repaired much cheaper why not go that route. Use it in case of emergency if you like and buy a brand new one at your leisure.
