I suppose you meant spring steel when you mention stretch steel? I would not expect those parts to be made of aluminum they were made from spring steel for a reason - they clip to the other part. Aluminum just deforms and will have little or no grip.
As such I would have little hope of these new parts standing up for long.
Time for a rethink.
