I've heard you could fail the MOT and the tester will fail if they know you removed them.

As an alternative you could swap out the single 2.25 inch for dual 3 inch pipes from the second CATS and fit a dual in dual out exhaust (I used a Flow Master Super 44) it gave me the tone I was after after and possibly some gains.

It might be what you're after or not.
