I have never read about anyone being successful with aftermarket keys. I had to buy one from the dealer years ago by giving them the VIN and they laser cut the key, then you follow forum instructions to program it. I think I paid $140 in 2008 so I am sure they are more expensive now, but they should work correctly (which is the goal).
Companies say that the keys are laser cut to impress customers or they are not knowledgable in the process. The keys are engraved with a small cutter that looks like an endmill, you can still see the toolmarks in newish keys.
