How to program your own key. SAVE $$$
Thx for your replay. :-) But here in Sweden we have the Mercedes key with no panic button on it. We only have the buttons to open and close on the keys. The spare key work to open the doors when I put new battery in it but when I try to start the car the engine starts but then stops after a few seconds. When I try this tips on the forum to put the key in the ignition press one of the buttons twice and try to start now the key is all dead can´t even open the doors any more with that key. :-(
The key to the left in this picture is the one that don´t work at all after I try to put that key in the ignition switch and press on button twice : https://www.crossfireforum.org/g/picture/5666573

Dan, perhaps if you send the dealer a couple of Vaker flikas(Beautiful girls) they might give you the better key with the panic button???
George,
Go to ebay, by a new fob(blank) or 2. Then follow direction on how to replace your old into the new ones. I did this after replace the whole ignition system. Really pretty easy. The two new blank fobs cost me $15.00. 2 years later and still working like a charm.

Ok people,
New keyfob from justwings. Tried the programming method. Car will start for a couple seconds and then shut off. After repeated attempts, the car will not start. If you wait a while and come back, the process will repeat.
My wife has been doing this and she confused the start position with the on/run position but she claims she has done it both ways with no success.
I swapped batteries already. No difference.
Does it matter if the control module in the truck is out of the car? I can't see why but we are operating the top in manual mode right now so I removed the module.
I see someone else had this same issue. It's definitely related to this keyfob since the old one still works fine.
Help!

I'd contact Rob at Needswings.. if your old key currently starts the car.. and the new one won't.. sounds like a misfire of sorts on the keys RFID chip.
"Programming" is for lock and alarm functions and has nothing to do with the car recognizing the chip to start.

Just purchased a 2004 Crossfire with only 1 key.
If I pick up a new one from amazon, how can I have the key cut and programed without paying a dealership? Not sure if this older post is still a valid fix for me...
Thanks! Looking forward to having fun with this beauty.

I have never read about anyone being successful with aftermarket keys. I had to buy one from the dealer years ago by giving them the VIN and they laser cut the key, then you follow forum instructions to program it. I think I paid $140 in 2008 so I am sure they are more expensive now, but they should work correctly (which is the goal).

The chip are programmed to each car with a unique code, the chips are programmed at select businesses that are licensed to do this. It is a security precaution to prevent theft of the cars.
I think that you should get your money back ASAP. If this is a legitimate key then it is the first I have heard about it on this forum. Legit keys start at around $250 and are programmed to start the the car it was made for, you have to program it yourself to remotely unlock the doors, a ten second process that needs no skill.
NeedsWings is the preferred key seller on this forum.

Here is one for the gurus of Crossfire key fobs
1. 2007 Crossfire convertible worked fine. Yesterday went to the parking lot and the key fob did not unlock the doors. Changed batteries car did not unlock. Read the manual, read this forum, and read general internet searches, and then went to synchronize it, as stated above, and also some 4-6 other versions of synchronization. None worked.
2. Found my second key fob. Encouraged with knowing that the second key fob worked fine, I went to unlock the Crossfire and nothing. I tested the second fob to see if that battery was working and it showed a light when pressed.
Would really appreciate some help on this one.

Went to the auto parts store and bought a mixed set of fuses for $8. Checked each of the fuses that had anything to do with the IR remote system. All were good and ready to have the dealer perform his surgery on my wallet. Pushed each of the fuses into their slots, just to make sure. The car started up with the old key fob. The key fob with new batteries did not work. Used the instructions in the manual to reprogram the fob (press the lock or unlock button on the fob twice and then insert the key into the ignition and the on position within 30 seconds). The second key fob with new batteries synched. I am now in good shape. Out $8 and have a great story.
Again, many thanks.

It's just the country living.. Fresh air and no chemicals in my well water...
The procedure worked!! I cannot believe it, the car starts, but I do not have the capability to unlock or lock doors automatically with newly programmed keyfob. Any ideas?
If your key (with fob) works to start and run the car, you are golden! The difficult and expensive to replace piece is an RFID-type transponder chip glued into the fob which has to interact with an antenna right behind the key cylinder bezel to let the motor run. This chip is NOT connected with, does not use, the circuit board and battery inside the fob which control the lock / unlock functions.
To get the lock / unlock / alarm functions working you can follow a procedure listed in the owner's manual. (OR pay a dealership $100 or so.) As in an earlier post: "Used the instructions in the manual to reprogram the fob (press the lock or unlock button on the fob twice and then insert the key into the ignition and the on position within 30 seconds)."

Yes, otherwise having two working keys would be impossible.
Now, when you "program' the key to the car, you are only programming the lock/unlock/panic buttons. The RFID in the key that starts the car requires no programming.
So, even if you could get the car to forget the stolen key's programming, that stolen key would fail to lock//unlock the doors, but if the doors were left unlocked, it would still start the car.
There MAY be a way to get the car to "forget" old keys, but the only way to make the old keys not start the car, would be to replace the SKREEM with one with a different RFID code, I believe that IS possible, but not for the standard price.
This is the one thing about our anti-theft system that is kind of a 'fail'.
For a REAL answer, send an email to ROb at needswings.com - he sells keys for $159 and SKREEEMS for $250, if there is a way to do what you want, he'd be the guy who would know.

They can make that a permanent delete or temporary if you think there is a chance of getting the stolen key back. Anyone who wants to dig into the skreem material online can confirm this.
