I hope you will be able to make it, if not I certainly understand. It is far, probably a full 2 day trip for you. We travel to Williamsburg, Virginia about once a year and we do it over 2 days (though it is really only 18-20 hours of driving). If I recall, you are a few hours from there (we are friends with Tom).
Crystal,
First, You will never make everyone happy. Don't fret, just make it fun for those who do show up. And if you don't no worries. This crowd will find a way to have fun. Tthey always do.
Second, as I have repeatedly stated, you're hosting this is a big deal. It should be flavored to your group's locale and tastes. That is the true spirit of the CAA since the original here in St Louis.
Suggestions are one thing. Complaints and demands are something else. Frankly anyone who votes to change the locale or the flavor, but hasn't volunteered to host one themselves, isn't qualified to vote.
Although it is unlikely I can get away to attend, I support your efforts and that of your group. I say, make it special. Make it unique. Make it St. Francis LA!!!!!!
Make it so guys and gals like me regret we didn't attend.
