The tranny does need to be checked with increments on a transmission stick. I got mine from euro-parts in California....it wasn't expensive. I had a leak on the electrical plug from a faulty o-ring.....apparently a recall but did it myself at the time. Anyway, the tricky part about checking the trans oil is there is a temperature chart along with the height on the stick and it has to be checked this way for accuracy. You don't want it overfull or underfull. I have done this roughly ten years ago so I guess I got it right. Use the chart and a infrared laser thermometer on the tranny pan.
