Why Speed Grip 5? I would have thought Speed Grip 15 would be the correct product. I believe 5 remains a little flexible like a car bumper. Then I'm guessing you are putting the carbon fiber over this with the West ( excellent line of epoxy, used for bonding and finishing in the marine field) epoxy which will be hard non flexible.
