First, I sincerely hope I get to reach your age, although 180 sounds like an awful lot
I also have no intention of going deaf, at least not on purpose. I have been doing live sound and pro AV now for 25 years nearly, and at one point I did lose a large percentage of my hearing. I was very lucky that my hearing recovered (1 in a 1000 I'm told) and do not wish to damage it again.
Having said that, the intention for the subwoofer in the trunk is to help avoid just that.
With the top down, at speeds over 50, it is practically impossible to hear anything below 120Hz without absolutely blasting the system. In order to not have to do such things, the easiest solution (that I have come up with, I am always open to ideas) is to place low mids closer to the listener (a low mid driver in the center) and add a subwoofer in the trunk in order to add the low rumble that will be missing.
Please note that vibration, which is literally all that will be coming from the trunk, does not damage hearing, it is the high dB that does the damage.
I am not one to play music at deafening levels (been there, done that) and this is something that will be adjusted depending on road noise. However, I am a big music fan and I do like all the frequencies to be present (which is currently not the case over 50).
So... do you know if it is in anyway possible to override the sensor?
