Default Re: Problems with new headunit installation

I do not believe that is the answer if you are using the original amplifier. That OEM amp was designed to be driven with speaker leads.

The three cars I've helped get going had OEM amps in them, and I just wired speaker outputs to the amps and they worked well.

HERE is how I do it:
  • Buy a generic harness for the new head (if it does not come with "flying leads" already).
  • Set the head and harness up on a table.
  • Get the manual for the head out.
  • Download and print the diagram from the service manual for the wiring from existing head to amp.
  • NOW, draw a new diagram of what color goes to what color. Pay attention to ALL wiring, battery lead, ground, ignition lead, amp-enable lead, speaker leads, etc.
  • DO NOT proceed to the last bullet until you have figured out all connections.
  • Sit in the car with the diagram and make your connections.
