On-the-other-hand, I would sometimes, put it in park when waiting in a slow moving line at a drive-through like at Wendy's or Chick-fil-A, for other reasons.
You worry about car jacking? A locked car in rush hour is pretty safe. You live in the US not Johannesburg S.A.
If everyone left half a cars length between their car and the one in front traffic jams would be much longer.
