I will share my experience with cloning the chip. I purchased the Xhorse VVDI key tool having the same idea of cloning the chip from my existing key. I was able to read the data from the original chip and program that data into the virgin chip. I then scanned it again to verify the code took which it did. The key with the cloned chip would not start the car no many how many chips i wrote the code too. I gave up at that point as I had other things that took priority. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to resume troubleshooting but I definetly check this thread and help anywhere i can.
