I am hoping you have downloaded the online service manual (showing wiring diagrams and component locations)? After checking the fuses in the illumination module located between the door and inner dash area, check the next thing. A step not mentioned is take a voltmeter and open either brake lamp bulb assemblies to see if you have the 12V present at the bulb socket when the brake pedal is pressed. If the 12V is there when the pedal is pressed, you have a ground out. Lookiing at the wiring diagram, you can see the color codes for the grounds (brown) in the lower left corner (3 wire runs) used for the voltage test, and the ground wire drop points. Good luck finding this if it is a ground problem.
