Your comment implies that if you replaced the mechanism with a late Mercedes part all problems would go away., though I suspect just removing the spring loaded pin gives long term releiability. do you happen to know if the barrel and key are showing issues whether the dominant cause is wear in the barrel or wear ion the key?
